In case
'In case' means 'if. Generally, we use 'present indefinite tense' after 'in case'.
I will start early in case....
I will start early in case I become late.
- Don't forget to carry an umbrella in case....
Don't forget to carry an umbrella in case it rains.
N.B: But we must use 'past tense' after 'in case' if the Principal Clause is in the 'past tense'.
- They walked very fast in case....
They walked very fast in case they missed the train.
- My father started office early in case...
My father started office early in case he got stuck in a traffic jam.

Proverbs
Students will have to learn some proverbs using complex sentences.
- Where there is life...
Where there is life, there is hope.
- Make hay while.... Make hay while the sun shines.
- Where there is a will... Where there is a will there is a way.
- As you sow.... As you sow so shall you reap.
- He laughs best who.... He laughs best who laughs last.
Rule 21:
Use of Past Indefinite Tense and Past Perfect Tense
If the Principal Clause uses Past Indefinite Tense, the Subordinate Clause generally uses Past Perfect Tense and vice-versa.
- He had taken his breakfast before....
He had taken his breakfast before he went to college.
- We returned home after...
We returned home after the sun had set.
