Linking Words (part-1)
Linkers are words or phrases that we use to maintain a chain when we speak or write. List of Linkers or Linking Words and their uses:
- To express the sequence of events (what happens after what) we generally use the following linkers:
-firstly, in the first place, in the beginning, in the end, lastly, finally, after that,next,to conclude,then etc.
Example: Firstly, our people are very hospitable. In the second place,they are emotional.
2.To give more information:
Not only---but also, as well as, neither---nor, èither---or, besides, apart from etc. Example: He is both a poet and a player. Neither I nor my friends are responsible for this.
3.To give an example:
For instance, for example, in other words, such as, nameiy eic. Example: For instance, he never becomes rude to anyone.
4.To express contrast (opposite of'what is said)
On the other hand, on the contrary, but, yet, till, while, even though, nevertheless, though, although, in spite of, despite etc.

5.To express a reason:
Because, because of, that is why, since, as, for etc.
Example: Since the weather was cold, we didn't go out. He couldn't send his son to school because of poverty.
- To express the result or consequence of an action or event: As a result, as a consequence, hence, therefore, that is why,so etc. Example: As a result of being insincere, he lost the job.
7.To express a purpose:
That, so that, in order to, in order that, lest etc.
Example: We work that we may prosper. She started early lest she should miss the train. We
eat in order that we may live.
