COMPLETING SENTENCE(part-7)
To refer to a place, we use 'where' and complete the sentence using proper
subordinate clause.
- Paris is the city where....
Paris is the city where the UNESCO head-quarters is.
- A mosque is the place where....
A mosque is the place where the Muslims says their prayers.
Rule 16:
......the time when....
We use 'when ‘to refer to clock-time, days, dates, months, years etc.
- Saturday is the day when....
Saturday is the day when the week begins.
- 1971 is the year when....
1971 is the year when Bangladesh became independent.
Rule 17:
So+ Much/Many/Little/Few+ NP+ /Few+ NP+ That.
For countable nouns we use 'many' and 'few'. For uncountable nouns we use 'much' and 'little'.
Structure: Sub + little/few + noun + that + sub +Sub+ verb + so + much/verb +other words.
- There is so much water in the Buriganga that....
There is so much water in the Buriganga that you can't drink it all.
- I have so many hairs on my head that....
I have so many hairs on my head that I cannot count them.
- Water contains so little protein that....
Water contains so little protein that it will not make us strong.
- My class has so few students that....
My class has so few students that I know them all.
Rule 18:
Present Perfect Tense in the Subordinate clause.
If the Principal Clause uses either present or future indefinite tense, we must use present perfect tense in the subordinate clause.
Structure: Principal clause + when/after + sub +has/have +past participle +other words.
- Sultan will go to Germany after....
Sultan will go to Germany after he has got a visa.
- ........, you will go to school.
When you have taken your breakfast, you will go to school.
- You will know the secrets of success when....
You will know the secrets of success when you have read this book.
